Handling: Part 2 (Tuesdays) - May 2025

Calendar May 6, 2025 at 5 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Prerequisite:

  • Handling Part 1 or permission after agreement of at least two instructors.

Skills learned: 

  • Advanced handling techniques such as threadles, serpentines and tunnel entries/exits.
  • Continued work on front, rear and blind crosses.
  • The dog’s line and managing its path.
  • Executing short sequences, possibly with alternative handling options.
  • Increase the dog’s confidence and drive.

Intro to Courses (Tuesdays) - May 2025

Calendar May 6, 2025 at 6:15 pm, runs for 6 weeks

 Prerequisite:

  • Obstacles 2 and Handling 2, or permission after agreement of at least two instructors.
  • Dog can consistently perform contact obstacles.
  • Dog has basic understanding of the weaves (it's okay if handler encouragement is still needed).

Skills learned:  

  • This session will use entry level courses. 
  • Students will learn how to review a course map to determine a preliminary handling plan.
  • Students will learn how to walk a course and solidify their handling plan, including an alternate in case something goes wrong. 
  • Successful side changes in motion.  
  • Sequencing several obstacles successfully while incorporating the appropriate handling techniques.
  • Emphasis will be placed on the dog’s path.

Dog skills: 

  • Execute the obstacles based on Handler's cues.

Will run

Obstacles I (Tuesdays) - May 2025

Calendar May 8, 2025 at 8 pm, runs for 6 weeks

Prerequisite: 

  • Agility Foundations or permission after agreement of at least two instructors.

Skills Learned:

  • Dog goes over jumps from all angles and begins to learn a stay at start line. 
  • Dog can be sent over jump or follow movement of handler to go past jump.
  • Dog is confident entering a tunnel at a slight curve.
  • Dog is confident going over a lower dog walk. 
  • Dog understands stopped contact behavior and can stay until released with handler nearby.
  • Dog is able to run through 2x2s that are still open—with handler on both sides.  Exposure to beginning teeter skills.

Handler Skills:  

  • Front cross
  • Post turn with dog going over a jump.
  • Start line stay. 
  • Ability to sequence 3-4 obstacles successfully.
